TWO! Who Am I Kidding?
Had a perfectly ordinary day at school today, dealing with overdue books and unreturned textbooks (which is my non-teaching duty, more or less, and annual end-of-the-year headache), but tomorrow I return to the land of the new library software. First thing in the morning, though, I get to see that video that I filmed a scene for some time ago. I'll give you my review tomorrow night. After that, I'm off to one of the middle schools to attempt this procedure we need to do at each of our schools, but have no idea what the directions mean. I'd rather work on a blog, or even a .css sheet, any day of the week.
I went out to lunch today with the Other Chai. You know, we have tentative plans to go to DisneyWorld in November, when we have a long weekend. I really didn't think she was serious, but today she said that every time she thinks of us going, she giggles and feels happy. So I guess we really are. Going. I said we have to get together early in the summer and make the plans. She is a terrible, terrible procrastinator, and unless I keep her on it, she will never get around to making the plan until it's too late to go. One of the things she suggested was that we fly out of a smaller airport near where she lives -- she lives just over the state line in New York -- instead of a big airport like Newark or, god forbid, JFK, and I think that's a great idea. The only thing is that there's a very limited number of flights out of there so we'd better book really, really soon. Maybe I'll even check the current deals when I finish posting.
I had a talk with the Sibs before about their college search for Little K, who is just finishing his junior year, and I think they've got some very odd approaches to it all. Afterwards, I talked it over with my K, our family's most recent college attendee, and I swear, she should be the kid's guidance counselor. At the very least, I think we need to have lunch one day next week -- the Sibs, Little K, my K, and I -- and share some of our knowledge with them. Not that they are without knowledge, but it's of a different type. K has some real life experience to share with them.
I'm branching out musically, for some reason lately, and am currently downloading Elvis Costello's new album. This is most unusual, because, you know, he was not recording songs that were played on top 40 radio in the mid-sixties, which is generally the main criterion of my musical taste.
I finally got email from the Chum, who arrived in Maine for the summer on Saturday, but who had no phone service until today. She uses dial-up for her internet, and prefers AOL for everything, although she can't get it where she is up there, so every summer, she uses the email address given to her by her local provider there. I have tried to explain to her that she should be able to get her AOL email from any internet connection, but I think that's a technological leap she can't make, for some reason. I also don't send her video links of any kind, for obvious reasons. Dial up. She must have way more patience than I have. You know, I've already told my children that when they start looking for a home to put me in at some future date, they'd better make sure it has good cable and a high-speed internet connection. I don't care if it has a kitchen. Or a bathtub. (But a stall shower would be nice.) I just need the TV and the computer, and I'm good.
Okay, Elvis has downloaded, I believe. Time to sync the iPod and attempt yet another night of futile sleep.

Elvis Costello! HMM haven't listened to any of him for ages. I must dig the CD out.
ReplyDeleteI love that she giggles every time she thinks about Disney with you. That's girlfriend joy!
